The three hundred kilometer Annapurna Circuit follows a well-traveled trade route and allows for easy access to Nepal's 'Abodes of Snow'. I spent thirty-five days enjoying the unusually wide range of climatic zones encountered along this pedestrian 'high' way. This once remote and inaccessible region is now the home of a booming tourist trade, which makes this trek in many ways easier than a solo adventure in North America's back country.
Characterized by hot springs, rhododendron forests, and huge pieces of fresh baked chocolate cake, this trek culminates in the 5,300 meters pass called Thorung La, which touches the edge of the fabled Tibetan plateau. The majestic mountain scenery and stunning sunrises are constant reminders that the Himalayas are a region of magic, inspiration, and humility. The generosity of the families who live among these mountains will remain with me forever. The traditional greeting of "Namaste" - or "I greet the God within you" - truly has meaning among these mountain people.
The slide show covers many different climactic regions of the Annapurna Circuit, including a picture of the photographer in the Annapurna Sanctuary, and a photograph of women selling flowers in Kathmandu. All of the photographs in this slide show and in InnerGardenArt.com were taken with my Canon AE-1. Enjoy viewing and learning about the other magical places in the Inner Garden.
